I almost never do memes, but I like the one that bigeyedem just posted.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

As I watch him, I remember a voice from the previous day: "He must have had an iron gullet. He poured coffee down the way you empty a water glass into a sink. And always black."

from Shoeless Joe,WP Kinsella

I love that book.

This allowed him to think of people in their living context, their social situation. Sociologically, religion provides a culture's plausibility structure, so Kaplan rounded out his social theory with a concept of God sufficiently believable that it could drive Jewish civilization. As a naturalist, that meant God had to be rigorously immanent and he therefore defined God as "the power that makes for salvation."

I swear this was the closest book. And it hurts my head.

Mine is:

"I'm not..." "Say it." "Well - Ms. Krotenjager, Mr. Dalton - I think we've covered all the major points."

What a boring selection. Not even worth posting in my own journal. Maybe I should choose the not-nearest book.
